As part of a university project, I was tasked with creating an opening for a fictional TV show based on the short story iANNA by Will Self, with the title sequence needing to be 20 seconds long. Down below you can see the full opening I created in addition to this web gif to accompany the opening and advertise the show on various websites.
I had a lot of fun during this project as it allowed me to experiment with many of Adobe After Effect features such as the camera setting that makes for interesting designs, as well as the glow effect that gives the design this futuristic and mechanical feel.
I challenged myself to just use simple geometric shapes and lines as I wanted to see what ideas I could come up with. I was heavily inspired by many title sequences from shows such as Stranger Things with the build-up of lines to the eventual reveal of the title card, as well as American God with their title sequence combining ancient and mythical imagery with a more modern and technological aesthetic.
For my opening, I used technology to symbolise body parts that follow along with the narrative, with the first scene showing Anna's body being pictured as a motherboard that's working perfectly. After the incident however, she has fallen ill which is symbolised by the motherboard being corrupted by the red line. This later affects her vision and how she sees the world which is represented by the circles that form the eye.
Here are two different storyboards that I merged my outcomes together. I wanted to focus on the technological aspect the story presents since Anna's struggle with technology is a recurring theme that's present in the story and I wanted to highlight that with my opening.
